Introduction

The Sub-Jail, Paralakhemundi was established in the year 1942. It comes under the District of Gajapati, Odisha & it comes under Berhampur Prison Circle. The total area of the Jail Land 2.645 Acres.


History of Jail

The jail is situated at the foot of the hill & near the Office of the District Magistrate & Collector Gajapati, & District Head Quarter Hospital & Town Police Station Paralakhemundi within 500 meters. It is far away from four K.M from Railway Station & three K.M from Bus Stand. This jail building both for Convicts & Under trial Prisoners.

Facilities

  • The jail having Video Conferencing facilities for production of UTPs in the trying Hon’ble Courts. The Schedule Capacity of the jail is 124. Out of which 109 Capacity for male & 15 for female inmates. The entire jail is under the CCTV Surveillance which is monitoring by the Superintendent.
  • Legal Aid Clinic functions in this jail to provide legal assistance to the needy persons by the help of District Legal Service Authority, Gajapati, Paralakhemundi.
    Hospital facilities is also available round the clock by the supervision of Jail Medical Officer & Pharmacist.
  • The Om Shanti Spritual Organization, The Prison Ministry of India Organization are organising spiritual programme inside the jail to built the moral & social character among the inmates which motivate them to come into the main stream of the society.
  • Interview facility has been provided to the inmates to interact with their family members and lawyers .
    The inmates have been provided playing materials like Volley Ball, Carom, Chess , Television for their entertainments & telephone facilities is also provided to the inmates to interact with their family members and their legal counsellors.
  • The John Augustus Prison & Social Welfare Services, Athagarh, Cuttack distributed Study Book & Study Materials & Examination Fees to the children’s of inmates every year. The District Education Office, Gajapati also distributed study books to the inmates every year and encourage them for reading.
