Sub-Jail, Jeypore is an old Prison established during 1950, presently situated in the centre of Jeypore Town. The distance of nearest Railway station is about 07 K.M. and Bus stand 01 K.M. away from Jail. It protects society from dangerous and violent criminals and isolates those who deserve such a punishment from their family and friends. Aim:- Aim of the Prison is to stop recidivism trying to stop offenders re-offending . Keep prisoners in safe custody.Maintain order, control, discipline and safe prison environment. Provide decent conditions for prisoners and meet their needs, with respect to food, clothing, bedding, hygiene, sanitation and health care.

History of Jail

The infrastructure of the Jail buildings meant for inmate’s accommodation is pretty old type ,established in the Year-1950.

  • introducing Panchayat System among prisoners,
  • Introducing Wall painting on the Wall depicting various family and society related matters in order to aware the emotions of the   Prisoners concerned towards their Family.
  • Introducing the Video Linkage System between Prisons and Courts which enabled speedy justice to the Under trial prisoners.
  • Introducing e-mulakat(Interview) and mulakat through Glass barrier on Security and Physical distance point of view.
  • Introducing Manara Katha Karyakarma ,where they can share their views, memories among the prisoners in order to reduce their mental stress.
  • Introducing positive programmes which help prisoners address their offending behavior
  • Introduced Canteen and Telephone facility.

The profit of which are being deposited as Welfare fund and when needed for the wefare of Prisoners and their family members this amount is being given to needed person on recommendation of Committee.
