PRISON ADMINISTRATION AND CORRECTIONAL SERVICES

The Prison administration of the State is headed by D.G./ Addl.D.G. of Police, who functions as I.G. of Prisons and Director,
Correctional Services. The State has 86(+2*) numbers of jails of different categories as under.

These jails have capacity to accommodate 19799 (Male 17957 +Female 1842) Prisoners. After functioning of Bhoipali Convict Jail, capacity will be further raised by 500.

There are 55 correctional centres functioning in the state under the social defence scheme.

Different units like food processing industries(Atta, besan, mudhi, mustard oil, turmeric powder etc. ), weaving, tailoring, carpentry, printing, book binding, jute mat, blanket, coir fibre, moulded khali leaf, phenyl manufacturing, handloom etc. are functioning in various jails which provides occupational opportunities to the prisoners as well as supply of quality food stuff products to public.
